The name “Kiritsu” comes from Kiryu, located at the eastern edge of Gunma Prefecture in the northern Kanto Plain, which is known for its paulownia trees.
The “nana” refers to the region’s seven weaving techniques and traditional crafts, which are also known for jacquard production.
The fabric is tied into rope-like strands and dyed under high temperature and pressure to create vertical wrinkles and a soft texture.
The fabric is tumbled in water to give it a soft feel and a distinctive, textured appearance.
The garment is vertically gathered by hand.
